It is indeed amazing how people strive hard just to communicate. Many fatalities had happened just because a driver cannot help but talk to his passengers, answer a phone call, or read an e-mail. We can’t stop doing such! That’s why people keep on inventing things that allow us NOT to stop communicating. One of these inventions concerns those people driving a motorcycle.

Of course, you know that when you drive a motorcycle, it is almost impossible for you to communicate verbally to anyone, even to the passenger at your back. There is the physical hindrance that does not allow your hand to be off the controls. Another thing is the noise. The roar of the engine could deafen you for the moment. You can hardly hear voices or if you hear it, it is not that clear. Therefore, communication is useless. But there are times that things should be delivered clearly to someone during that particular moment. That led way to the introduction of the Bluetooth motorcycle helmets.

With that development, motorcyclists can effectively communicate. It has the capacity to make and receive calls (even international ones!), which are all guaranteed to be hands-free. Also, you can talk free of charge to anyone using the same kind of helmet up to 500 feet away from you via an intercom system. With this, communication is kept alive on the road while ensuring that the safety of everyone is protected. Therefore, communication is not a problem anymore to all the people riding in a motorcycle. How About Pinger Texting?

When you are on a drive and suddenly your phone rings, what will you do? Would you care to stop to entertain the caller or the texter? Would you just ignore it and wait until the ride is over? Or would you grab it right at the moment it blares? Different people would pick different actions. However, how many do you think of all the drivers out there pick their phones right away? And how many of those meet accidents due to those acts?

Many (though only a few will admit) know the consequences of using mobile phones while driving. A survey conducted in the United States revealed that 91 percent of American adults believe that driving while texting is often as dangerous as driving after drinking. However, even though a great majority of American adults believe that way, still, two out of three people who drive a car use their mobile phones to either send a text message or an e-mail.

With numerous accidents brought about by texting while on the road, it is necessary that this technology should provide a solution to this wreck they are bringing. Many claim that there is a need to illegalize texting while driving; however, the drivers’ need for information and communication while on the road is taken into consideration.

With that, Pinger (a company composed of inventive people whose task is to create and run consumer services to make a difference to people’s life), had come up with a solution to that problem. They came up with a voice messaging system wherein the driver will just give the contact name and message through speaking to a hands-free headset. After that, the message is sent to any mobile phone he/she wants. However, this is only limited within the boundaries of the United States. With that technology, there is no more need for the drivers’ hands to leave the steering wheel. Therefore, a safer ride is on the way.

It is great knowing that drivers on the road are still given the opportunity to communicate. It’s a wonderful experience for drivers out there. I, personally, salute to this invention!

It’s Getting Hot In Here

Many would consider their car as their home. Just like me. However, if someone in your family died inside that car you see as your home, would you still call it a home? Many things really happen when someone is caught dead inside a car and the most painful thing is if that person found dead is just a kid!

Among the common incidents that cause some children to die inside a vehicle is dehydration and hypothermia. This happens when a child stays in an enclosed vehicle without good ventilation during a hot summer day. Really, there is an increasing fatality rate of small children dying that way. That is the news!

With that seen on TV, a master electrician and technician of the Coca-Cola bottling plant in Minnesota named Mark Pelletier had decided to come up with a device that could save the lives of children caught in that kind of situation. He invented a cheap programmable circuit board that has sensors that could detect when a vehicle had reached a certain temperature. When that is detected, an alarm goes off.

That is also supported by the fact that a closed car’s temperature could go up quickly. A car under a 76-degree heat from the sun can heat up to a hundred degrees in just a span of half an hour! Add to that the fact that small children could easily suffer from dehydration five times faster than an adult or when their body’s internal temperature rises above 104 degrees.

With those facts, it is really necessary that a car has an alarm system like what Mr. Pelletier had designed. Since almost all children have no knowledge about what can happen to them, they may never have a chance to know that they are suffering from this. If lucky enough, a passerby could come and rescue a child inside a really hot vehicle. But what if there is no one around? It is still good that you always attend to your children. They are still not in the proper age to mind what situation they are in. So do the necessary things to be done. Continue calling that car your home.

On Reducing The Number Of Road Fatality

Almost all car manufacturers today are making an effort to make their vehicles provide safety for everyone who owns or rides in one. One step they are taking into consideration is equipping their vehicles with the electronic stability control. Many makers had already started this on some of its vehicles while others are still planning to do it. However, ordinary auto buyers don’t want this step because they are more concerned with the price of the vehicle than the safety it could bring them.

Before we talk about its price, the electronic stability control is a system that helps the drivers keep control of their vehicles at high speeds and slippery roads. This is done by applying the brakes to all four wheels and cutting the power of the engine everytime the sensor detects that the vehicle is beginning to spin or skid. With this technology, researches found out that it could prevent up to 10,000 fatal crashes annually. It lessens the possibility of death in single-vehicle rollovers by 80 percent and in other types of collisions by 43 percent.

However, the electronic stability control is not that supported by consumers. One of the reasons is its high cost. It is priced at 300 to 800 dollars per piece considering that each wheel should be equipped with it. But there is also a complete package of it amounting to 2,000 dollars. Another reason seen by researchers why people have almost no interest in it is because they have totally no knowledge about it. That is because car manufacturers introduced this technology bearing different names. For example, General Motors introduced this as StabiliTrak, Ford Motors as AdvanceTrac, Toyota Motor as Vehicle Skid Control, and other luxury makers as Dynamic Stability Control.

If you have no knowledge about this yet, it will pay if you try to know something about the electronic stability control. However, if in the event that you are convinced of its capacity to save your life but you don’t have the money to have it, at least use a seatbelt. Why? It is because the electronic stability control only ranks second to seatbelts in terms of life-saving benefits.

Clearflow: A Decision-Maker

I know that being stuck in the middle of a traffic jam is irritating. I know you know this also. And Microsoft knows it too. That is why an invention paved the way to solve the problem of getting struck in a traffic jam. It is not a step to lessen traffic problems, but how to avoid a traffic jam.

It all started last 2003 when the president of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence, Eric Horvitz, was stuck in a traffic jam in Seattle while on his way to look for a restaurant. He decided to take a detour and used the side streets instead of waiting for the traffic to move. But he realized that the decision was a great mistake. From then on, he pondered on how things like that could be resolved.

Then there came a time that Microsoft researchers began to build complex software algorithms to oversee the traffic behavior in Seattle. It became successful and from it spurted the invention of software that can predict traffic situations. As time went by, the software was not only limited to Seattle but to 71 other cities in the United States as well.

The software is called the Clearflow system, which dictates to drivers via mobile devices. This can help you monitor the traffic situation in different streets so that you could avoid those that have heavy traffic. This can also tell which route is better because it can calculate how long it would take you if you wait in the traffic jam or if you take a detour. The moment you receive it, you can decide which route you are going to take.

With this, there would be no more problems in making the right choice. The Clearflow system would be the one to decide for you. Therefore, you won’t be having a bad day on the road anymore.
