The Road of Death

Cars are deadly, so are the roads. Roads could push you off a cliff and could take your life. It could also leave you hanging by a tree branch and let you wait until you fall. Anything could happen on the road, whether you are driving or just an innocent one jogging along the sides.

But there is something more intriguing than that. It’s when you keep trying to cross over a road safely but the road itself is tagged as the Road of Death. It leaves you just two options: to live or to die. If you want to live, then drive safely. If you want it the other way around, drive recklessly but make sure that you’re the only one who’ll die. (That’s true, don’t you ever get the life of an innocent one).

As I was saying, this Road of Death is in Bolivia. Perhaps, you would say that this place is so far from you so you need not worry about it. However, it is just right to know something about it so that if chances bring you there, at least you know what to do.

This road was already tagged as the world’s most dangerous road in 1995 by the Inter-American Development Bank. It extends 70 kilometers connecting La Paz and Coroico, which is the only road that connects the two places, with 3,600 meters downward slopes, which are mostly narrow curves. No safety net is built on the sides of this road causing 100 to 200 peoples’ death annually. More than that, the situation gets worse during rainy seasons—the most dreaded of which is when the fogs rise, which turns the road a zero-visibility zone.

I cannot give you tips on how to deal with this road if you happen to pass by it. But the only thing that you should keep in mind is to drive on this road with the utmost care you can manage. It is not easy to be on this road, for sure, though I haven’t had the chance yet to travel there.

So before this ends, I would like to remind everyone that there are still other roads that are labeled as dangerous and these can be located in various parts of the world. Better watch out for those.
